Power, Peace and Influence

Juxtaposition of a representation of external power, through the White House, and a representation of inner peace, through a meditating monk

Power is influence over external events. Peace is influence over internal events.

James Clear, Atomic Habits

Power often takes the form of hunger, craving and yearning to influence, dictate other people and external events. On the surface often seen as driven by ambition, but most often deep down rooted in a desire to put a lid on an insecurity or fill a void within oneself.

It can be argued that you do not experience peace, even in peace times, if you do not have inner peace. The ability to be with oneself and not needing anything else can be be cultivated through a meditation practice. To not just react to the environment or ones thoughts, but be mindful of ones emotions and thoughts and just let them go. To be comfortable with and to nurture the stillness of the mind.
